Philippine COVID-19 infection hits record high

The COVID-19 epidemic in the Philippines has spread, and the number of confirmed cases reached a new high on the 28th. President Rodrigo Duterte has announced through a spokesperson that the epidemic prevention restrictions in the capital Manila and some provinces have been extended.
The Philippines was originally one of the countries with the most severe epidemics in Asia. Under the raging delta variant strain with high infectious power, the Philippines is struggling to cope with the surge in community-transmitted cases.
On the 28th, the Ministry of Health notified 19,441 cases of infection and 167 deaths. This is the third time that the number of confirmed cases has set a new record in the past 9 days. At present, the cumulative number of people infected with the COVID-19 in the Philippines exceeds 1.93 million, and the number of deaths reaches 33,008.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque announced in a statement that Metro Manila's current second-strict quarantine restrictions will be extended to September 7. Although some companies allow 50% of employees to work in the company, restaurants, personal care services, and religious activities are still not open.
