According to statistics from the Central Epidemic Prevention and Control Headquarters of South Korea, there were 342,388 new community infections and 58 overseas infections on the 8th. Experts believe that the epidemic in South Korea has reached its peak, and a turning point and decline will appear in about one to two weeks. South Korean epidemic prevention authorities previously predicted that the number of confirmed cases in a single day would peak at 354,000 on the 12th.
With the rapid increase in the number of confirmed cases, the number of severe cases and deaths also surged. The number of severe cases was 1,087, an increase of 80 from the previous day; the number of deaths increased by 158, reaching a total of 9,440 cases, with a mortality rate of 0.18%. The number of home treatment cases increased to 1,218,536 cases, an increase of more than 50,000 cases from the previous day, of which 185,000 cases belonged to those over 60 who needed centralized management.
The number of infections and deaths continues to plummet in most parts of the world, except Asia and Oceania, where New Zealand has reported a surge in cases.
According to related reports, as of the 8th, data showed that since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, the total number of people who died of the disease in the world has exceeded the 6 million mark.
